Booming Tools
Ambient booming tools and accessories enhance the function and quality of the boom operators work.
Quicklok
Quick-Release System
 |
The Ambient "Quicklok" quick release tip for microphone assemblies is the first professional snap connection available which makes a rigid rattle free joint and has a self-locking and self-locating action. The unit is a robust, precision mechanical assembly. The mechanism can be described as a taperlock where a taper stub (screwed to the microphone assembly) is inserted into a tapered hole through a butterfly opening which is twisted until the stub fall into place. Removal is by twisting the outer sleeve. The Quicklok fits any 3/8" thread as encountered on all microphone booms. |
FLOATER
Shock-Isolating Suspension
 |
The Floater is a membrane suspended acoustic decoupler that fits between a boom end and a windshield. It effectively soft suspends a windshield assembly to reduce stand-born mechanical noise. The Floater is especially useful when booming with Stereo M/S mikes where noise pickup can be enhanced by the side mike of an M/S stereo pair, or to reduce floor noise reaching a mike on a stand. The Floater is constructed of ABS black plastic and aluminium and contains two specially constructed weather resistent rubber ring membranes. The lightweight construction is totally enclosed, avoiding whistling sounds in high winds. |
Rycote Adapter
 |
This very short flange allows the floater to be positioned very near the windshield reducing bending moment. It can also be used as a general mount for windshield combinations. |
DIPSTICK
Articulated Boom Segment
 |
The dipstick is an add-on extension for Ambient booms. A two-stage extension with maximum extended length of 60 cm, it allows an ENG recordist to boom over the head of a cameraman or round corners allowing one to get nearer the action. The flange can be locked to any angle including being folded back on the boom. |
Twister
Stereo Swivel
 |
The Twister allows the mike assembly 2 angles of rotation, allowing a stereo mike to be adjusted with the left right axis horizontal whatever angle the boom may have. This ensures that the left-right sense of the sound is preserved. |
 |
This swivel is used for mike assemblies on the jumbo Boom and ensures that the mike assembly always hangs vertically independant of the boom angle. When the jumbo is vertical, the mike assembly still hangs vertically and is held away from the boom. |
| |
This is a simple bar with sliding screws where two or more mikes can be mounted. It has a centre 3/8" thread for mounting to the mike link. |
